Who is responsible

Benjamin Smith, trading as GlucoseMate, is the data controller for information you provide to this app. You can contact us using the contact details supplied with your account or purchase. For billing and refund requests, contact Paddle at paddle.net.

What we collect and why

GlucoseMate stores the information you put in so the app can work for you. This includes:

  • Account details (email and sign-in credentials): to register, secure and provide your account.
  • Profile details and goals (height, weight, age, sex, activity level, targets and preferences): to personalise planning and progress.
  • Foods, ingredients, meals, recipes, diary entries and meal plans: to save and show your food history and calculations. Foods added to the shared catalogue may be visible to other signed-in users; do not put personal details in food names.
  • Health-related entries (glucose, HbA1c, weight and heart-rate records you choose to add): to show your history and patterns. We treat these as sensitive health data.
  • Technical information such as IP address, browser/device information and essential session data: to operate and protect the service, troubleshoot problems and prevent abuse.
  • Messages you send for support: to answer your request.

We use your information to perform our agreement with you (your account and requested features), for legitimate interests in service security and support, and to meet legal obligations. For health data, we rely on your explicit consent when you choose to enter it; you can stop entering it and delete your account. Where consent applies, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. We do not use your health data for advertising.

Who can see your data

Your personal records are private to your account; other members cannot see your meals, readings or plans. Owner and admin accounts can see account-level details and activity counts to manage the service, not the contents of your health records. Shared catalogue food details can be visible to signed-in members. We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.

Food and barcode lookups

When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the app may check the public Open Food Facts database to fill in nutrition values. Do not put private information in food searches. Foods added to the shared catalogue may be visible to other signed-in members; your personal diary and plans are not.

Who we share data with

We use service providers for hosting, account security and AI features requested by you. For AI requests, relevant food or recipe details are sent to the AI provider to generate a response. Paddle, our Merchant of Record, receives information needed for sales, subscriptions, payments, tax and invoices and handles payment-card details; we do not store your full card number. We may also share information with professional advisers (such as accountants or lawyers) and authorities where the law requires it. We do not give staff access to your diary contents simply because they manage accounts.

Storage, transfers and security

Our providers may process information outside the UK or EEA. Where applicable, we rely on recognised adequacy arrangements or contractual safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. We use appropriate access controls and encryption in transit and at rest to protect your information, although no online system can guarantee absolute security.

How long we keep it

Your account records are kept while your account is active. Deleting your account removes its app records; limited transaction, security or legally required records may be retained for the period required by law or needed to resolve disputes, then deleted or anonymised. Paddle retains purchase records under its own policies.

Your rights

You may ask to access, correct, erase, restrict or receive a portable copy of your information, and object to certain processing. You may withdraw consent for health data processing where consent is the basis. Contact us through the account or purchase contact details to make a request; we aim to respond within one month, subject to legal exceptions. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.

Cookies and local storage

We use essential browser storage for sign-in and to remember app preferences (such as chart options and shopping-list ticks). These are needed for the service or your requested settings. We do not currently use advertising or marketing cookies. You can clear site storage in your browser, but doing so may sign you out and reset local preferences. If we introduce optional analytics or marketing cookies, we will explain them and provide a choice first.

AI features

Some features use AI, such as filling in missing nutrition values and giving meal advice. When these run, the food names and nutrition details of the item you are working on are sent to the AI service to get the answer. These are estimates — always check them yourself.

Medical disclaimer

GlucoseMate is an information tool, not a medical service. It does not diagnose, treat or replace advice from your doctor or diabetes team. Read the full medical disclaimer.

Deleting your data

You can remove individual entries inside the app. You can delete your account in Settings; this permanently removes your associated app records. The owner account needs separate assistance to be removed. If you have Plus, billing is set to stop before account removal, but any refund must be requested from Paddle separately.
